Human Beings

Planet earth has witnessed the birth of many species. Some evolved with time and thrived for thousands of years whereas others were not so lucky. Human beings are species which at present are placed much comfortably as compared to other living beings on Mother Earth. But, what horrible legacy are we leaving behind? Not just for the coming generations but also for other living beings i.e. animals and trees.

In the last 300 odd years we have systematically looted resources from Mother Earth and at the same time have played a destructive role with clinical precision that has lead to the extinction of several species. And all that we have gained in return is an unstable, unsure, conflict ridden world. Human beings are the only species that pay ‘rent’ to stay on earth. Humans have made a lot of progress in all fields known to the world. But at the same time have completely abandoned the aspect of spirituality (not to be confused with religion) from every day life.

This unfortunate neglect of spirituality from everyday life has degraded the world we live in not only for us but also for other living species. People are busy leading their lives with scant respect for their surroundings. They live as if they won’t ever die.

Is this the legacy that we plan to leave for coming generations? Will they ever forgive us. The current generation is making a grave mistake by taking grace bestowed by Mother Nature for granted. For a few minutes of joy we are eagerly sacrificing the glorious future of coming generations and paving the path of death and destruction for the million plus species on Mother Earth with our insatiable greed and scant respect for beings – living or dead. Power has blinded the minds of many. Even boons bestowed upon humans are being employed to attain silly immaterial, short term, narrow, personal gains. ‘I’ (Ego) is the biggest illusion and the world is entangled in it like a fly in a spiders web. Unless sincere efforts are made to regain the dignity of human race and other loving beings on Mother Earth , I fear the day won’t be far, when the human race itself shall cease to exist.

Spirituality (not to be confused with religion) is the key. It is the only aspect that will determine whether the coming generations of not just the human race but also of plants and animals will curse us or bless us.

I feel ya on this post. I, too, think & write about this a lot.
This comment: “Human beings are the only species that pay ‘rent’ to stay on earth,” reminded me of Daniel Quinn’s Ishmael series. Have you read it? In one of the books he mentions how we “lock food away from ourselves” and we are the only species that does this. how true! we lock away the good from ourselves and work so hard to get it back. glad to see these sentiments i feel often reflected in your writings. there are many of us who would like to get this message out: i hope it is heard on a mass scale! many blessings from the united states ❤ wren
