INDIA is bounded in harmony by many blessings. Rich traditions, culture, way of life, scientific mind, festivals, heritage, innumerable languages and dialects. But I feel there is one gift that acts as a sound foundation to everything INDIA represents and is a part of. It is the language of Sanskrit. It is also known as Dev Bhasha or Dev Vavi – Language of Gods (Dev- God and Bhasha / Vani – Language).
India has been blessed with many great scholars, thinkers, philosophers, scientists, mathematicians, musicians whose works have survived and inspired lands in all directions of the world, millenniums after their works were born. It is because of this great language that we were able to understand the science behind their works. The Vedas, which encompass all fields of human intellect, nature and more are in Sanskrit language. Sanskrit means complete, put together, compose, arrange, prepare. It is the mother of all languages. It is a language that enriches – heart, mind, body and soul.
Sanskrit can enable a person to understand a language which is pinnacle of excellence. Language makes man, gives colour to a society and shapes the identity of a country. Language of a person is a strong reflection of the life he leads. Sanskrit was the main language which was widely spoken in all corners of India. It is because of the wide use of this language that we, Indians, were able to achieve heights of excellence unparalleled in human history in all acts of life – be it science, maths, arts, literature, entrepreneurship, philosophy, science, medicine, physics, astronomy…. the list is endless. India has been the torch-bearer of knowledge in ancient and present times. And it was possible because of this wonderful language.
It is time we embraced our true culture and learnt this mighty language. A language which has been declared to be most scientific in nature and use. It is a language which cuts across caste and creed. It is a language whose hand, if held, will help us enjoy the fruits of our civilization, consolidate our present and at the same time enrich our vision about future.
