What is INDIA? Yesterday, we celebrated our 63 year of being a Republic state. The day was marked with amazing, inspiring and patriotic display of courage, culture and valour by the armed forces and countrymen from various states. The Republic Day celebrations were graced by incubent Thailand PM – Yingluck Shinawatra.
That brings back the question what is INDIA? There are many ways in which the said question can be answered, but the most important of all question to be asked is – Did India as a country come into existence in the last 6 decades or is even older than that? The answer to the above question can not only settle the origins of this mighty country but at the same time shed some light on its true existence.
The answer to the above question is simple and yet enigmatic. India is an idea! A thought, collection of wisdom that have bathed the collective minds from all four corners of the world in various aspects of intelligence, science, philosophy, art, literature, mathematics, trade, medicine etc. These qualities enabled others to lay strong foundation for their respective societies. These very qualities were omnipresent in each and every corner of the then Indian subcontinent which extended from the doors of Persia to the temples of Angkor Wat and BEYOND! creating wondrous monuments which gave birth of various romantic mysterious that have transcended time.
The biggest contribution to the world is the gift of VEDAS. The Vedas contained knowledge on all aspects of life and helped to guide and nurtur the earliest civilizations that settled on the banks of Ganges. Infact, Vedas are even more ancient than Ganges. The Vedas contain the complete concepts, of various scientific queries that question the minds of scientists in today’s era. Sanskrit was and is, a true and complete language. With the collective force of Vedas and Sanskrit the ancestors of the ancient Indians spread in all four directions, the important aspects of knowledge which helped them to brighten their own society and in return also of others. The Vedas are the fountain heads of knowledge. A sip of such knowledge can quench the thirst of millenniums.
INDIA’s another great power through which it has managed to capture the heart, mind and attention of all across the globe, is it’s ‘Soft Power’. Soft Power has helped INDIA conquer many a hearts through it’s innovation, entrepreneurial qualities, social commitments, scientific attitude. India’s Soft Power has successfully managed to add value to the lives of many countries across the world.
INDIA is one place where the citizens of the world, retreat from their frantic lives, to find peace and salvation. INDIA has always provided a warm blanket to the soul of millions who strive to find meaning in their lives. It is known as Dev Bhoomi – Land of Gods’. (Dev – God and Bhoomi – Land). Blessed is the very air that travels across the vast stretches of land that touch the crown of Himalayas in the north and wash their feet in the serene waters of the Indian Ocean. The seven sisters in the east reflect the versatility of Mother Nature and the west proudly boosts the varied colour’s of life and culture.
Being Indian is a way of life, which is founded, to help a person break the eternal shackles that surround him and liberate the soul. An idea which has been developed over millennium’s to enlighten, educate, sustain and provide peace to the world – That is what I feel INDIA is. Being INDIAN is to carry the idea in your heart and put it into action wherever required and whenever possible.
“We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made!”
– Albert Einstein
“India conquered and dominated China culturally for 20 centuries without ever having to send a single soldier across her border!”
“Civilizations have arisen in other parts of the world. In ancient and modern times, wonderful ideas have been carried forward from one race to another…But mark you, my friends, it has been always with the blast of war trumpets and the march of embattled cohorts. Each idea had to be soaked in a deluge of blood….. Each word of power had to be followed by the groans of millions, by the wails of orphans, by the tears of widows. This, many other nations have taught; but India for thousands of years peacefully existed. Here activity prevailed when even Greece did not exist… Even earlier, when history has no record, and tradition dares not peer into the gloom of that intense past, even from until now, ideas after ideas have marched out from her, but every word has been spoken with a blessing behind it and peace before it. We, of all nations of the world, have never been a conquering race, and that blessing is on our head, and therefore we live….!”
Swami Vivekananda, Great Indian Philosopher
